Old School and the 'mill

"OH MY GOD BECKY. LOOK AT HER BUTT..."

What happens when my little boy wakes up with a stuffy head and a scratchy throat? It means I have a morning date with my dreaded home treadmill instead of going to the Y. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful that we have one so we can run at free will (whoopee!). But there is something about logging miles on my home treadmill that is just as appealing as watching paint dry. At least at the gym you can people watch and check in with Regis and Kelly in closed captioning.

Just before I am about to hop on for my 4 mile run I do the necessary procrastination distractions. Dishwasher empty? Check. Clothes in the dryer? Check. Dog brushed? Check. Sam set with a snack and his Nick Jr. pals Franklin and Little Bill? Check. I'll be back in about 40 minutes...

I scroll through my IPod looking for something different to listen to. I love running to a little Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake like the rest of us, but sometimes you need to change it up a bit. I stumble upon a playlist titled "Bad Party Tunes" that I put together a while back. Hmm. This could be interesting.
Armed with Sir-Mix-Alot and Naughty by Nature (not cuz I hate ya) I start my 1990's party tune celebration. Memories of bad hook-ups, really bad clothes (oversized flannel shirts and super baggy jeans anyone?) and my old fake ID license number flood my memory. Next thing I know, I am belting out loud every word to the rap portion of "Push It". Now why is it that I forget to put my son's lunch in his backpack, but I can remember Salt and Peppa's clever and thoughtful lyrics of "Yo yo yo yo baby pop yeah you come and give me a kiss. Better make it fast or else i'm gonna get pissed...".

Next I give Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) a run for her money with my rendition of Prince's "Kiss", complete with kissing noises and all. At this point, Sam has come downstairs to see what all the hooplah is about. He is sitting cross legged watching me as I attempt to do the dance from "Tootsie Roll" while I run (I don't recommend this...). I ask him "Are your shows already over?" and he replys, "No Mom, but watching you is much more fun than watching 'Little Bill'".
Glad I could be of entertainment little buddy :o)

So,I invite you to dust off your "MTV Party to Go" CDs (c'mon...I know you have them) and put this playlist together. You may want to do this one at home as your treadmill neighbors at the gym may not appreciate your singing...

  1. OMG, this is HiLaRious, Kim! I haven't thought of those beats in too long . . . . Now that you're primed, we need to go dancing. Maybe your treadmill moves are akin to those of a professional ice skater ~ the perfectly executed splits with one foot gliding over the ice, if, done on land are supremely over-extended . . . . If you can bust it on the mill, imagine what lies in wait for the dance floor! :)
